The St. Matthews Chamber welcomes David Karem, president of the Louisville Waterfront Development Corporation!
David Karem is president of the Louisville Waterfront Development Corporation. He received an undergraduate degree is from the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art & Planning, and he obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law. He serves on the board of Spalding University, Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Development Advisory Council, and the Main Street Association.
David served in the Kentucky General Assembly for 33 years, and served on the Education Committees of the General Assembly for 32 of those years. He served for more than 20 years on the Southern Regional Education Board, served as chair of the SREB Legislative Advisory Council and as Treasurer of the SREB Board.
David currently serves as Chair of Kentucky Board of Education. He has served as a juror for the landscape architecture schools at Harvard University, Louisiana State University, and the University of Kentucky, and as a member of the Grawemeyer Award in Education Final Selection Committee in 2002, 2004 and 2008. He is the recipient of the Governor’s Arts Award, the Kentucky Society of the American Institute of Architects Laureate Award, and the Jefferson County Public Schools/Gheens Academy Pioneer Innovator in Education Award 1983-2008.
David and his wife, Anne, have two sons, Dr. Jeff Karem and doctoral candidate Andrew Karem.
