The St. Matthews Chamber is proud to introduce Roger Burkman, former
University of Louisville Basketball Player to speak at the March Business
Luncheon.
Roger hails from Acton, IN, in 1977 he graduated Franklin Central High School and then went on to the University of Louisville on a basketball scholarship. During his tenure at UofL he played under Hall of Fame Coach Denny Crum,
was a member of the 1980 NCAA Championship Team and was considered the best sixth man in college basketball his junior and senior year. Al McGuire gave him the nickname of “Instant Defense,” which seemed to reflect his aggressive style of play. Burkman has been quoted as saying that, “I played every game like it was my last.”
Roger was drafted in the sixth round to the NBA Chicago Bulls where he played
half a season under Head Coach Jerry Sloan, the rest of the season he spent
in Anchorage, Alaska playing in the CBA (Continental Basketball Association).
Currently he is the athletic director at Spalding University in Louisville, KY and
