SUMMARY:Living Beyond Lymphoma Support Group at Baptist Hospital East
DESCRIPTION:The Living Beyond Lymphoma support group\, sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society\, meets Tuesday\, April 10\, from 6-7:30 p.m. on the first floor of the Baptist Hospital East Cancer Resource Center\, 4007 Kresge Way.\n\nThe Living Beyond Lymphoma support group meets the second Tuesday of each month and provides survivors and their caregivers with information\, interaction\, encouragement and support through treatment and recovery. Led by specially trained professionals\, each session allows for sharing experiences as the survivors learn about their disease and how to care for themselves.\n\nFacilitators include a nurse practitioner and Social Worker Carol Holland\, LCSW.\n\nLymphoma is a type of cancer that affects cells of the immune system\, called lymphocytes. There are two types of lymphocytes\, called B cells and T cells. These cells produce antibodies and kill pathogens in the body. Lymphoma occurs when either B or T cell lymphocytes transform and begin multiplying uncontrollably. This growth can cause the lymphomas to harm other tissues and organs.\n\nThe group is open to diagnosed lymphoma survivors and their caregivers or loved ones. Other special sessions may be included as the group desires.\n\nThis support group is free. For more information\, contact Carol Holland at\n\n(502) 897-1166 ext. 1501.
